HOW YOU CAN HELP

Providing charitable, compassionate care to the community has been the cornerstone of the Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk mission since we were founded in 1952. The generosity of donors helps us fulfill our mission to provide quality healthcare to patients regardless of their income, illness, insurance or ability to pay. Please see below for the many opportunities for you to support VNSHS and help families in your own community facing a healthcare crisis.

Memorialize Your Loved Ones Name in Stone in the Hospice House Memorial Garden

The Hospice House Memorial Garden provides a lasting way to memorialize a loved one. Bricks, pavers and granite pavers are available for purchase and engraving according to the donor’s wishes. A Memorial Garden Dedication Ceremony for donors and their loved ones is held annually in September. Orders must be placed by June to be included in the ceremony.

Volunteers

Whether you commit to a couple hours a week or a couple hours a year, Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk (VNSHS) provides rewarding opportunities for you to make a difference in the lives of patients and families facing a healthcare crisis. Some volunteers have specialized expertise, but most are people who want to serve our community and help their friends and neighbors. Some volunteers work with patients, while others help at the office, events or in the community. Volunteer opportunities are available 365 days a year.

25TH ANNUAL RUN FOR THE HEALTH OF IT  – A RECORD BREAKING SUCCESS!    PRESENTED BY THE CHARLES AND HELEN REICHERT FAMILY FOUNDATION

The 25th Annual Run for the Health of It is a record-breaker with the most runners, walkers, sponsors than ever before and coming together to raise more than $40,000.

This year’s goal is especially meaningful. The funds raised will be used to expand the Memorial Garden at Hospice House. For over 20 years, this garden has been a place of peace and remembrance for patients, families, staff, and volunteers.

The day kicked off with a kids fun run at 8:30 – each child received prizes and a flower for their mom or special someone in honor of Mother’s Day.

The 5K started at 9 am along the tree lined, scenic course through Northport village.  The route was comfortable for competitive runners as well as leisure walkers. Many families formed teams to walk together in memory of a lost loved one.

Fastest runners received cash prizes and gift cards were awarded to the fastest in age categories. In celebration of National Nurses Week and in recognition of the tireless dedication of nurses, we presented cash prizes and gift cards to The Northport Hotel for the fastest male and female nurses.

Guests enjoyed a DJ, a wellness village of activities, and a BBQ after the 5K.
